Before he was expendable and his films became synonymous with machine gun induced carnage, Sylvester Stallone made movies that were actually worth watching. What really jump started his career was his iconic role as Rocky, an unknown boxer that gets a break of a lifetime by holding his ground against heavyweight champ Apollo Creed.
What unfortunately happened after Rocky and also First Blood, which on its own is a surprisingly good film as well, Stallone has turned his success into franchises of one incredible commercial success after another, while sullying his integrity as an amazing talent in the film industry.
Much like the ex-California Governor doing his best to capitalize on his glory days, we see Stallone revisit his character as Rocky in the spin-off, Creed. Starring Michael B. Jordan (the B. is necessary for obvious reasons), the story focuses on Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s rival and friend Apollo Creed.
For those that felt cheated out of real drama and excitement from the Mayweather v. Pacquiao fight, maybe this film can be the real cure within the ring.
Opening November 25, 2015.
